UK Budget, Schedule & Tax Relief PackageFor producers outside the UK

If you're a producer in Canada, the US or Europe weighing up a shoot in Scotland or elsewhere in the UK, I can put your film into UK numbers so you can see what it costs here and what comes back.

01Who it's for

This is for producers who have a script and a rough plan, and want a clear, realistic picture of making the film in the UK before committing: a budget in UK costs, a schedule that works here, and an honest estimate of the tax relief and funding the film could access.

I'm a Canadian producer and line producer based in Glasgow, so I know both sides of the conversation. It suits independent features that are deciding between territories, international co-productions bringing part of a shoot to Scotland, and producers putting together a finance plan who need UK figures their financiers can rely on.

I'm a member of the Production Guild of Great Britain, and I work regularly with Screen Scotland funding and UK film tax relief.

02What's included

Level 1

Top sheet budget

A top sheet budget for your film in UK costs.

  • Main budget accounts costed at current UK rates
  • All figures in pounds sterling, with a conversion to your home currency (Canadian dollars, US dollars or euros)
  • The exchange rate and date used are stated, with a note on allowing for currency movement
Level 2

Full budget and schedule £3,000

A detailed budget and a shooting schedule, built in industry-standard budgeting and scheduling software.

  • Line-by-line budget in UK costs, including fringes and UK employment costs
  • Stripboard and shooting schedule
  • Currency notes as in Level 1
Level 3

Full package

Everything in Level 2, plus the information you need for a UK finance plan.

  • UK tax relief estimate: Audio-Visual Expenditure Credit (AVEC), or the Independent Film Tax Credit (IFTC) where the film qualifies
  • Screen Scotland funding overview: which funds might fit and what they ask for
  • Crew and location cost guidance
  • Cash-flow outline

Tax relief figures are estimates to help you plan. Your accountant and the BFI and HMRC processes confirm the actual claim.

03Turnaround and fees

Turnaround. A top sheet typically takes about a week. The full package typically takes two to three weeks, depending on the script and how settled your plans are.

Fees. A full budget and shooting schedule is £3,000. The top sheet and full package are quoted as fixed fees after a short read of the script and your shooting plans.

04How it works

  1. Send the script and the basics. Your rough budget level, preferred shoot dates, where you'd like to shoot, any cast or key crew attached, and how the film is being financed so far.
  2. I quote. After a short read, I'll suggest which level fits and send a fixed fee and a delivery date.
  3. I deliver. You get the budget and schedule files and a short written summary of the assumptions, and we go through it together on a call.
  4. Optional: line producing. If the film comes to the UK, I can carry on as line producer, from prep through wrap, post-production and delivery.
