00the all well something different that was um... that one that was that's one of the only song that gets the parents for the most part kind of the songs album and maybe that's not so much for me yeah yeah i think um... and i think the the title of the song kind of is appropriate something different something different you know but um... i don't know like what wait i
54it doesn't mean at all i don't write to it it is used to you know shit how many times but um... with a song like that i could it it stands out you know it's different and it um... i don't know i loved it though like it had to be it was different you know but be i know that equipped to open great you know that there's a song no problem you know and um... you know if we're gonna have and it was kind of where i thought
49if that makes any sense oh absolutely and i like how you said there you you write to the instrumentals that always the case or you coming up with words and then and then saying the travis and tim this is kind of what i'm looking for behind behind these words we record this album it was kind of different every day like sometimes trac uh... tracks would be built around a drum beat the travis made up or sometimes you know tim would have a certain guitar idea sometimes i'd be like i have this book and you know it always sound like whatever you can explain to people how the rest of the song is gonna sound
38we based it off of a lyrical idea that i had i know it got a good chemistry and should even this time with their being fit along break in between albums you know like when we got back in the studio and started writing again it was like when was that because because i'm doing research for this interview travis had said like in twenty eleven that there were tunes recorded then everyone thought there'd be a record last year and the title tracks been out for like a year and now the record has been a minute we um... we put out show we got back in there and like
27and you know obviously we didn't record this whole time entirely or so we know you know we were going to get you know caught transplants Tuesday get in there once a week and became two days well even you said in a recent interview talking about exit the wasteland you know you i think the quote was you can either write about dumb shit like i have in the past the right songs in the new album like exit the wasteland when did you when did you grow up because you say that quote to you know maybe i'm getting
13older something but there's there's more important to talk about so when when did that happen when did that realization hit you i mean shit i know i thought that we're for a while you know when because shit haunted cities came out in what two thousand then it starts for the beginning two thousand five you know i've been through a lot of shit since then up until now and up until we start writing this album and up we're getting older fucking like i just
08people about them last night or whatever you know i don't know anytime you know i thought i don't know was there something was something that's heard you know this environmentally friendly you know it's a heavy topic to to talk about even see it to believe it is kind of about like people being sent the sensitized nowadays and no one really can't you know i mean it's it's all stuff that i've always felt and and had strong feelings for and about but i've just i guess i've never really put in songs as much as as on this album i don't know cuz i can't
54i care about that type of shit i care about fucking the environment i care almost i care about you know i don't know deeper stuff than just getting drunk or you know i mean i can't kick myself because like i don't i don't care about maybe really meant a lot of you know i can fucking get old you know but i think that
39you're in a fucking band you know and especially a punk rock band something differently and maybe you know i don't know i've been nineteen years now the main thing that got me and the stop eating fucking animals and shit in the conflict i think you know conflict and you know as a kid i listen to the fucking crash conflict and all these bands are important to me and you know when you're a kid
30you gravitate towards certain things what you think or you know what you think is so that was like the main thing that you know got me into not fucking eating animals was i or we as a band are on the same level the best bands ever you know what i am saying is
16you know people are going to be listening you know your friends can be listening so you know i can either fucking talk about fucking get drunk and that and wake up look what's going on outside your fucking front door type shit you know which i think is is a little more responsible a little better about than just partying but hey you know there's a fucking time and place for everything you know i expect to have a good time you know make music that's you know maybe a little different than making this type of record
09but maybe you do that maybe is a lyricist but yeah you're able to maybe you're probably right because you know transplants of the first band i've been it we get what i was gonna ask you were you writing before that before to mask you to write for this project never i'd never written uh... what made it be like for he wrote me a tune where how does someone think this up i don't know i think he just ripped off like me as a person like my lifestyle and this this should be bent through and the thing that i know and that the people i know and stuff you know and i don't know i keep you know i i never in a million years thought coming until you that much and never you know you could never told me as a kid hey one day to marm strong from operation of the rancid
57and you've listened to from day one is gonna ask you to fucking be in a band with them and then oh by the way traps barker's gonna be your job i've been like it the fuck out of here you know but i thought shit happens and you know here i am talking to you today about our band and our new album it's crazy you know i'm i'm very grateful because but i said i never i never thought i'd be doing this you know so it's pretty awesome for i'm just fucking me i'm just i'm just robbed you know born in Fresno California who cares but i'm in this position where i can talk to people and communicate with people things that i think are important you know and
47kind of had this mentality back in you know ninety nine two thousand we first are approached things differently and i would have made some different choices with you know i can't i can't crab you know move forward and uh... not make them same mistake again hopefully it's interesting that you it almost has a little regretful do you do you try to avoid those tunes on tour uh... not really i mean some of them but uh... at the same time it's like it's like you know some of you know we should we're still lucky the band that we have fan you know and they're becoming like djj
37you know and you know pocket but that's also a beauty of playing live is that if i want i can change a word here and there you know if i want i can fucking she if i want to change the whole song she's a little bit of a re-written old tunes live now now like uh... more like a freestyle thing yeah if anything like i might change a word here there are a name here in there to incorporate something or you know whether it be an inside joke with someone who got to show or you know whatever you know what i think that you know it's just however we feel you know we i mean i love playing music live i love writing music you know it's
23i just have a good time doing it you know so as far as regret i mean not really i mean sometimes like uh... this fucking song again you know but i think every day does that right that definitely and you know you can't get mad at anybody but yourself so pocket you know was that you know ship people are at the show to have a good time and we want to have a good time you know we want i don't feel like we're fucking forcing anything down their throat or hey what's up we're only going to play stuff off the new album that you haven't heard yet you know like no one wants to hear that that the other some of these songs are sent like what are some of the i guess most exciting what are you most excited to play from the new record live or there any tunes that really stand out because i mean you guys go in the road on week
10yeah we leave shit like a week here well i mean fun one's live i'm not the one who sing a little bit yeah yeah definitely and so far for the new stuff the funnest ones to me live are in a war zone back to you on dollars there's a bunch of violence you know it's fun i mean i think i think it's quite like with every band though like you know they're anxious to play the fun of them it's new you know still new to us still fresh to us and still like i said like this is the type of music
57i wish we would have been recording since day one you know so to play the new stuff to me is is extra fun it'll be interesting to talk to you in ten years and and see the progression from from this record to you know four records down the road and see where you're at lyrically then she hopefully if it's ten years will be like ten years come from the food and we won't take another fucking million-year hiatus between you know uh... i don't have too much time with you but but you you are going on the road in a week so i mean you've been touring you know even before you were in the band you were still touring with bands so what do you do the week before tour to get ready to to get your life um together and kind of separated from home life to tour life um i mean i i'm i'm fortunate where i've been on both sides of the stage well all sides of the age really in front of
43it behind it and on it so you know i've done van tours that i'm bus tours that i'm you know fucking through you could think of you know so i know not to take a lot of shit on the road i know you know keep it as simple and limited as possible or at least for me that's how i operate you know usually just one bag um minimal shit just you know couple pairs of boxes and socks and you know like because you know you you end up you tend to acquire a bunch of stuff on the you know because there's downtime you know so usually when i land in a city if there's time i'll go find bookstores
30you know and um fuck you end up you know buying shit you know buying vinyl you know buying books magazines and fucking t-shirts and you know just shit so you know i know not to nine times i tend to me coming back with a bunch of shit too you know to make two cases you know fuck all that i just try and keep it simple and you know i'm out there to play music and have fun you know i'm not really fair starting and clothing line hasn't changed that for you know no you know because even when we did we did the clothing stuff with expensive taste like you know it didn't matter to me like it didn't matter if
18it was gonna sell it's another type of because you're designing beyond fucking shirts and sweatshirts and hats shit you know so it's just another outlet creative creatively i think you know and you know it was what it was and what we do it again who knows maybe later on down the line but you know i'm focused on music right now you know absolutely so i'm gonna let you go because i know you get more press and uh and we're kind of running over time here so five quick questions no worries man five quick questions one-word answers road or studio london or macartney
12today well it's kind of hard to say since john london is somewhere else but not a one word answer no it's all good man i ask every every band gets exact same questions so it's always interesting to see who takes time and who doesn't because of the yoko factor i'm gonna go with macartney pucker biggie when you hear a song what usually hits you first lyrics melody or rhythm song you've written you're most proud of
03i guess today i mean i know it changes from time to time if i've written that song yet that's a good answer uh yeah i don't think i've written it yet that's a good one in one word the transplants original nice
