05Hey, it's Matt, it's Ottawa Blues Fest, it's day four, it's raining as you can see, so we'll do our best to get as much footage as we can, but you know cameras in the rain don't match too well, but we got this umbrella, so hopefully that helps out today on the show, fun, Tegan and Sarah, Hannah, Georges, and the amazing Joy Formidable all playing Blues trivia. I switched up the questions a little bit. Blues trivia is going over really well, but the same questions day in, day out, I think you're gonna get a little bored of that. I want to change things up, so we've got some new Blues trivia, we got a whole bunch of cool prizes, and we'll start the day with the Joy Formidable. All right Joy Formidable, you're all wondering what's in my bag.

00Sounds dirty. Yeah, it's not what I meant. So we're doing... Works with the accent too, I like that. So because it's a Blues festival technically, we're doing Blues trivia, and I'm glad there's three of you here, because we'll see who's gonna win a prize. We've got some prizes, so we can all compete against each other. We've got, these were big win yesterday was the horn, had something different to the next Joy Formidable record, right? So we've got the horn. He's always got the horn. I've actually got two horns because it went over so well yesterday. We've got, because it's Canada, we got a little maple syrup, because it's Canada. Yay! Okay. And, God forbid something happens on the tour bus, but we're at a war grounds, it's a war museum, there's a little survival kit here. That's kind of a lot of. So, okay, so Matt likes a survival kit, what do we want to play for?

48It's so unique. You want to play for the maple syrup, the horn or the survival kit? Band decision. Oh, and I got a little... It says horn. Yeah, I'll go with the horn. Ritzy says horn. Nothing wrong with a good horn. Okay, we're playing for the horn. Though the Blues dates back to before this, Mommie Smith's Crazy Blues was the first Blues recording in what year? 1910, 1920, or 1930? Twenty. Twenty? Twenty, Ritzy, one point. That was quick. Yeah. Lucille is the preferred guitar of which Blues... Rydian, one point. Ty, Matt, you gotta be quick. I know, I was like, I was going to say B.B. King, but he already said it. So, yeah, that's the name of the game. Should we play Wait till the end of the question is said? Is that what we're going to do or just shout it out as soon as you know? Oh, yeah, shout. As soon as you know, yeah.

34Okay, yeah. Now we've come to a consensus. All right. Who claimed... It's true, Dobby. Who claimed to have sold his soul to the Devil at the Crossroads? He's quick! Two points. One more point and I believe you win. No! I can win! All right. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd are the Blues brothers, right? Dan Aykroyd, fine. What's the question? No. A fine Canadian gentleman, Dan Aykroyd is. Spell Aykroyd. A-C-K-R-O-Y-D. Incorrect. Language. Ritzy. Ay-Y-C-K-K. No! No! Close though. Matt, for the steal? Too late.

19Alright, too late. It's probably Ayk-R. A-Y-K-R-O-D-O-Y. I'm going to give it to you because you said the A-Y-K and it's okay. Yeah, so two, one, one. Final question. For the win, you're already in the lead here and we might have to go to a tiebreaker if one of you gets this. Blue's legend, Lead Belly was discovered in an interesting place. Was it a prison, a brothel or an orphanage? Ritzy! Ohhh! Alright, we need a tiebreaker. His real name is Charles Arthur Burnett. What is his blue's name? What do we all know this blue's legend by? Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters or Hallenwolf? What he was. Hallenwolf. Hallenwolf and the steal? Ritzy gets the horn! Ohhh! Heh heh heh heh.

04Heh heh heh heh. He's so linear! We will cut all this and then we'll just cut right in here. Heh heh heh heh heh. I'm sweating. What do we want to play for?

50Maple syrup, survival kit or horn? Hey, the horn. I would say it. The horn. I knew I should have got it. Four horns today. Everyone wants to play for the horns. Is that right there so you guys can stay focused? Ready for it. Alright, so we got two teams. Rhythm section versus up front. What would you call- so rhythm's up front? What would you call yourselves? Rhythm section versus... The important. So why is this? The Alankas. Alankas. Alright, shadow the answer, teams. If you know it correctly. Though the blue's dates back to before this, Mommie Smith's Crazy Blues was the first blues recording in what year? 1910, 1920, 1930. 2010. 2020. 2020 is correct. One point to that. The rhythm section. 2020. It's 10-20. It's too early, T. It's too early. 10-20.

35One zero. One zero. One zero. Lucille is the preferred guitar of... Tie game. Who claimed to have sold his soul to the devil? Oh, wow. It was going there too. Two one. Well, you got to be quicker. This one's a little harder. Fine Canadian Dan Aykroyd is him and John Belushi are the blues brothers. Spell Aykroyd. A-C. No AKROID. Say it again? A-K. No. Incorrect. A-K-R-O-I-D. No. A-K-R-O-I-D. That's what I said. No. No, but that's not right. It might have been what you said, but it's still not correct. A-K-R. A-K-R. A-K-R. No. You're already wrong. A-K is incorrect. A-K-R. C-R? No. A-Y-K. R-O-Y-D. Correct! It's just unbelievable. Yeah. That's a good question.

20Three one. He saw Jackie's shaking. Let's do that. Let's do that. It's a jackal. Jackal. They've already won, but we'll go over to the final question anyway. Blue's legend, Leadbelly, was discovered in an interesting place. Was it a prison, a brothel, or an orphanage? Prison. Prison, Hannah. I was going to say brothel. Did you want to call her prison Hannah? Prison, I think that should be her new tour nickname. Prison Hannah. I like it. I'll take the survival kit. Sarah already has said that if, yeah, if Armageddon breaks out, she doesn't know. She doesn't want to survive, so I think I'll play for the survival kit. So we're playing for survival kit. Yeah. All right. I like it. Question number one. Okay.

05Ten functions. Okay. A whole bunch. A whole whack of functions. I'll just keep that right there. Though the Blues dates back to before this, Mommy Smith's Crazy Blues was the first Blues recording in what year, 1910, 1920, or 1930? 1930. No. Thanks, Dad. For the steel? Let's see. I'm going to say 1920. Correct. One point. Loose Seal is the preferred guitar of which Blues legend? B.B. King? Two points. You got to be quick on the draw here. I thought we were supposed to wait for all of it. Nope. Is that how we want to play the rest of this game? Apparently it's just cut throat and you just yell out whenever you want. It's fine. Yeah. Who claimed to have sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads? Do we get to hear options? Is it like all the other options? I can do options if you want options. Okay. All right. Charlie Dan. Robert Johnson or Eric Clapton?

53Eric Clapton. Charlie Daniels. No, Robert Johnson. All right. Still two nothing. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, Dan Aykroyd, fine Canadian, are the Blues brothers? Yes. Spell Aykroyd. ACKROID. Incorrect. AKR. Incorrect. Anyone want to take a second stab? Aykroyd. Why? Why? Why? KROID. Y-D. Correct. Two one. All right. For the tie or and we may have to go to a tiebreaker. Blue's legend lead belly was discovered in an interesting place. Was it a prison, a brothel or an orphanage? Well, I'm going to go for prison. Prison is correct for the win. I was tempted to say orphanage because we like to play orphanage when we're kids.

41Play orphanage? That's for another interview. Next time I see you girls, we're going to talk about playing orphanage. Survival kit. Yes. Look at that. This will come in handy today, I think, at the little blues fest. Yeah. Thank you very much. My pleasure. Thanks, ladies. We learned something new every day here at Blues Fest. How much fun are Tegan and Sarah? Actually, how much fun was everybody? Today's blues trivia really went over well and really happy about this. One more to play with and that's Andrew from Fun, who's about to hit the stage as well. We didn't get a chance to catch Tegan and Sarah set because Wu Tang took forever rappers. They're always late because I'm starting to learn in this business, but that's fine. Wu Tang was amazing nonetheless. It's the Wu Tang clan. I got to hear Triumph live. I will be happy forever. So no video footage from Tegan, Sarah, but we will shoot fun set and tomorrow on the show, Grace Potter, Harpoonish and the Axemarter, Cadence Weapon and Mother Mother.

26Tomorrow's going to be our final day here in Ottawa. I've had a blast. I hope you've dug the blues trivia. We've got one more day tomorrow. But right now, let's go chat with Andrew from Fun. Since you're the last interview of the day, there's only one prize left. I'm receptive to prize. You're a receptive to prize? It's a pure maple syrup because we're in Canada. Built as a maple leaf here. So I'm going to leave that right there for you. I on the prize. If I start getting wrong, I'm going to just suck it down before you can stop me. You just need to get two out of the five right to win the prize. We'll do that. Okay. And most of them are multiple choice. So you have a pretty good shot of winning. Okay. Though the blues dates back to before this, Mommy Smith's Crazy Blues was the first blues recording in what year, 1910, 1920 or 1930? I will say 1930.

12No, 1920. It's all right. Still got a few more. Lucille is the preferred guitar of which blues legend. B.B. King, Buddy Guy, or Jack White. B.B. King. B.B. King. One point. Interesting story about B.B. King. Here we go. My wife's father is a wonderful scourrer of interesting things everywhere. Like in thrift stores, a guard sale. A hoarder is what you're saying. It's a nice way of taking a hoarder. He sells or gives or whatever his findings. But he has a remarkable eye for finding interesting things. He found a pair of shoes signed by B.B. King and he gave me these shoes. So I have autographed B.B. King shoes. Do you ever wear these shoes or they're mounted somewhere? Yeah, yeah. I wouldn't wear them. That's cool. I like that. And he wrote an accompanying poem that was, I should be walking in B.B. shoes.

57Oh, that's nice. I like that. You guys should incorporate those lyrics into something on the next record. Who claimed to have sold his soul to the devil at the crossroads? Is that Muddy Waters? No. Fuck. Robert Johnson. Robert Johnson's correct. I'll give it to you because you were quick enough on the ground. Okay. Before I could even pull the mic back. Yeah. All right. So you've won it already, but we'll keep going just for fun anyway. Just for fun. You must get that pun all the time. I apologize. Actually, very rarely because I think people try to not say it. Right. It's worse when people intentionally avoid. Yeah, you can't avoid. Just go with it. Yeah. I'm not sure what you're going to speak. Yeah. All right. John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd are the Blues Brothers. Yeah. Dan Aykroyd famous Canadian. Can you spell Aykroyd? Yes. I think I can.

42Maybe. There's something strange about it. It's not quite phonetic. It's like AYK. R-O-Y-D. Correct. Look at you. I think you're the first person to get that right on the first go today. Yeah. Blues legend Leadbelly was discovered in an interesting place. Was it a prison, a brothel, or an orphanage? Those would all be interesting places. I will say an orphanage. Prison. Prison. Prison. Okay. You know what? We're going to actually play it in my hometown in about a week. And I was thinking like what can I do? Should I have a barbecue? Should I have like a taco party or something? I'll have a big breakfast. Are you kidding me? Oh, you just made my day. I'm so glad that we left the maple syrup for you. That makes me so glad. And you made my day because I was like what am I going to do? I don't want to like grill fucking burgers for 40 people or whatever. So you want to make pancakes?

27That's a lot harder for food. I did want to do. No, yeah.
