00Hey, didn't live in studio. Thanks so much for coming in man. Yeah, no problem. Appreciate it. How's the tour going? This is like the last date, right? Kind of the last date before we go back to Toronto. It's like a home show though It's your last day on the road kind of yeah, exactly you driving across no we we flew because it's February I was gonna say yeah Canadian winter touring probably not not the most fun to be in a van now I yeah, I've done it Over the years and it there's been scary moments. I can imagine try to avoid those fair enough Knox United Church last night That was the sound in the room must be just phenomenal Yeah, it's a beautiful beautiful place. That's one of the bonuses of Doing a nice Solo tour of Canada is being able to play places like that. Is it all places like that like theater venue
48I know you're playing Danforth in Toronto, which is amazing. Yeah, it's yeah there's been a lot of churches and unusual halls and Generally places where you don't need to bring reverb. Yeah, so yeah, it's all that it's been good Yeah, is it just you do you have a band? No, it's just just me. Oh, yeah, that must really carry the voice in the rooms Yeah, it's been it sounding good. Nice. We got the new record in field in town We've been playing wearing when I think past four weeks in a row because it's a great tune And you got your guitar with you. You got a harmonica as well. You're gonna play us something Sure. Yeah, um, this is a song called Wait of the world Hayden live in studio fuel 90.3 Yeah, love it Hayden live in studio fantastic. It's a good winter record. I'm glad it was released in the winter
41Oh good. Yeah, I was I was just Doing what I could to release it Fair hardwood records and I know a lot of local bands listen to show and I'm wondering How does a band get in touch with you if they want to get signed and released and whatnot? Do you do that kind of stuff? I know you did it for cuff Yeah, not really. Um, yeah, I wouldn't recommend sending me anything. All right fair enough Or not well, let's talk about the record. I know you started working on it years ago How did the songs change from back in oh five to the way they came out on the record? Did they morph a lot? Yeah, it's See I just never know where songs are going to go or end up and I there were a bunch I tried recording different times in different ways and there were ones that came really quickly and I knew I had the the right take of it
30It's just yeah, I've just gotten used to Expecting anything to happen when I'm working on a record. You love him the trumpet on this record too. There's lots of trumpet I do like to trump it. I think I have a theory of why I like to trump it as a soloing instrument and it's I think it's because When I write solo sections and songs and there's sort of a space there when I'm making the recording I always sing a melody Of what I want to hear there and because I get used to this very of Fluid kind of vocally sounding Thing only certain instruments can really get that sound and I find trumpets are very kind of They're like a vocal that way and you know, it's like a guitar solo just doesn't really have the same kind of
21Yes, and then I think it was not the best theory. No, no, I like it I like the trumpet and it bring it's good segue into wearing when because it's there's very few lyrics in the song And there's a lot of trumpet there at the one point right yeah, and you said you'd play it for us But without trumpet so I'm wondering what you're gonna do at that point you can play the harmonica over it No harmonica goes away. No, but basically it's an example of me just I end of the song. Oh, okay. So short a condensed version a radio edit if you will I mean there are songs I do most trumpet too, but I try out trumpet just you know like That's cool. We're all mid on you know that guy he does that a lot. That sounds really cool. I mean, I don't know how you pronounce his name No, I don't know him doesn't matter Hate and laugh he's like it does it better than me. I'll say that I'm often flat when I do them up
10Okay, here we go
36See what you mean by abbreviated version. Yeah, cool very nice. I know your dad's an artist I'm wondering if he's ever done your album covers. Have you ever approached him? Um I've approached him many times but um he did the painting of my Face that's on the last album. Oh, okay cool integrated a painting a painting he did with My girlfriend's graphic design and put them together for the cover of that. So it was it was really nice Working with no that's cool. I ask everybody that comes in five questions one more answers. I plot or CDs vinyl good answer Landon or McCartney ring though really? No, okay
23I'll take it anyway alcohol and marijuana What? Oh marijuana first and then alcohol definitely Song you've written your most proud of um Oh god, maybe maybe dynamite walls an older one cool One word Hayden. I'm hungry That works. I've heard the craziest things from bands before people have said like bricks and I don't know Um, let's play one tune off the record. What do you want to hear? Um, maybe more than alive How come? Uh, because probably the second most proud I am of a song of mine. Cool. Thanks so much for stopping him and really appreciate it Thank you. Thank you. So that wraps up 16th app for this week next week vancouver indy band said the whale are in studio
11But I leave you with Hayden of his brand new record in field in town. This is more than alive fuel nadi point three All that alive travel alone at night Through and i'll see others with life too more than i'll ride with your suffering
