00Thanks. Thank you so much for coming in. Thank you. Appreciate it. Nice to finally meet you guys. I've been wanting to for a long time. Nice. You're gonna come and play some songs. Definitely. Just been backing up Matt for a little bit. And I hear you're working on a new record. This record that I suppose I just heard of not new at all. It's like three years old, something like that. Let it grow? Yeah. It was 2007? Oh, so not that old? No. Not that old. Hahaha. Interesting. Okay. Never mind. Hahaha. But you're working on a new record on the last. Yeah. Yes. We are. Yeah. What are you expecting on this new record? I wouldn't say it's a huge departure from what we've done in the past. But it's definitely different. You know, working on kind of a different idea of really trying to make it an album. You know, with kind of musical transitions between the tunes.
47So the whole album kind of flows together. And yeah, it's a slightly kind of heavier album than Let It Grow. It's a little more on the rock and roll side and maybe psychedelic rock, I guess, you'd say. You guys been dropping the LSDs? I would probably not. No. Just remembering the good old days. And you're going to play a new song for us. Yeah. Yeah. We're going to play We're in the Storm, which is actually a tune that we haven't recorded yet. I think it's kind of slated for when the tour is done. We can get in. You can be an exclusive. Yeah. We pulled it out a couple nights so far on the tour. We really try to be changing up the set list every night. So we started throwing it in recently and it's been going over, you know, feeling good live. So we thought we'd throw it in today. Nice. What's it called?
34We're in the storm, which we were last night. So it seems to be. Yeah. I was. What happened? Pretty crazy, man. We got to pull over. We were driving from Winnipeg to Calgary and we got to Swift Current and... Bailed. Too much for us. Yeah. We... A couple of transports that had passed us earlier were kind of Jacknife across the road. We had to go around them. And then we thought, well, what happens after Swift Current? We didn't know. So we just stopped there. The fun of touring Canada in the fall in the winter. Have you guys done the winter thing before? It's death at times. Oh, yeah. We have, I guess, a lot of northern stuff in Ontario. Kind of stuff in the winter. We thought we'd get away with this when we thought we were just sneaking through time. Not quite. No, we'd hit a couple bad nights. It's supposed to be the late hours here and early winter. Yeah.
22There you go. I ask everyone that comes in five questions. One word answers. You guys can all answer.
46Road or studio? Leonard McCartney. Leonard. Alcohol and marijuana. Marijuana. Alcohol. Alcohol. Both. One word? Song you've written your most proud of. Doesn't have to be one word though. Learning on fumes. Cool. I think I'd say endless dream. Yeah, I'd go with the old Tommy there. And one word. The spades. Subatomic. Nice. They all agree. You can't see them, but they're all very happy. They're all agreed though. See, I was going to play another song for us. Yeah. What's next? It's called the only one. It's a little slower than most of your stuff. Yeah. Yeah. It's a bit more of a ballad for sure. Cool.
35Nice. Beautiful. Got that floaty thing going on. Floaty thing on the flying in the mat. See if we can get Matt to play some congas on it. Yeah. Sit on the floater. Yeah. Hippy style. Yeah. All I can do is sleep away the days. Till I hear somebody say. Get up. It's the Sunday morning. The sun is shining over you. So get up. Put on your dirty shoes. We'll go walking through the avenues.
24No one cares about your blue. It's what you choose. It's what you choose from where you're headed to. Away. And where you're running from. So get up now my son. You're not the only one.
11I'm in a dream. There's no one left beneath. A shadow of what I used to be. We're staring back at me. So come on. Wipe the edges from your eyes. Don't be so parable. Got a real eye. It's what you choose. It's what you choose from where you're headed to.
20Away you're running from. Get up now my son. You're not the only one. You're not the only. You guys just shot a video.
33Well yeah. For something off the new record. We finished the first half of it. After the tour we're going to go and finish it up. We have to act when we go back. So far we've just done a live performance of it. And when we go back we have to do our first acting stint. Did you have to have people there actually? Or was it just you playing from a green screen? Well no we actually were really lucky. We ended up in a bar in our hometown of Peterborough, Ontario that's been gutted for renovations. And we were going to shoot in this brewery that's right next door and it was too small. They opened up this old bar which was in disarray and we set up our own set inside of there. It's all exposed walls and stuff. It was kind of interesting. There's no people on the first part. I think the second part when we get back will have people shots and not like anything.
22Like people see it. What are you expecting? Another month or two? Yeah probably February March I think. Cool. Yeah. And the record probably around the same time. Nice. It's been a pleasure having you guys in. Thanks a lot. One more tune? One more tune, yeah. Definitely. One of my favorites I was listening to it earlier when you guys called. I love it. On my mind? Yeah. Nice. I love it. Good rock song. Good Canadian rock song. Big hit in the future. That's how people about it. It's probably the number one feel good song we've got. I mean they all feel good to play but it's pretty lighthearted and it generally makes the set every night. It's been around for a long time too actually.
08The song's been around for about five years. It's older than the band. How long has the band been a band? I've been a five year. Fair enough. And you were going like James in the space originally. Well yeah. Because the band kind of started after I did a solo album. But then it really became a band like a unit force to be reckoned with I guess you'd say. So you know we went with just the spades a little easier. People tend to get my last name wrong so we just took that out of the equation. Why did you do that to the athletes? You come. Do those old solo tunes come out though in the Saturday spades songs now? They were. They were. Why not took a look? No they really were. I mean we played them a lot. We beef them up.
53Yeah. Yeah we kind of revamped them and they changed over time. You know because they started out just upright bass and acoustic guitar. So we changed the arrangements of them every night pretty much if they come out. Sweet. Yeah. Thanks guys. Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. From every instance that they speak and a pushings they say that is trying to make me this all or nothing. Then that's all I have inside.
41So come and wake me up. World's on fire but I'm a sweet.
